What do the Smithsonian Institution, Sir Paul McCartney, and Sir Elton John have in common? All three own works by artist DG House – known for her vibrant paintings of Western wildlife and one of the distinguished American Indian artists-in-residence in Grand Teton National Park whom Tauck guests are meeting at Tauck Exclusive private presentations this travel tours season.

In 2015, on three popular Tauck trips – Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks, Legends of the American West, and our Tauck Bridges family adventure Cowboy Country – guests get to spend time with one of four American Indian artists-in-residence, DG House, Black Pinto Horse, Kelly Looking Horse, or Andrea Two Bulls. They use demonstration and presentation techniques to share their art and its connection to tribal stories and culture, while illuminating the link between traditional arts and the national parks.

monteThe new Tauck American Indian Artists-in-Residence Program comes out of our rich decades-long partnership with the national parks. We’ve been showing guests the wonders of the parks since 1925, and have been exploring Grand Teton and Yellowstone with them since the early 1970s.  Because we deeply believe that “this land is our land,” we have a long history of supporting the parks through philanthropy and the volunteer activities of thousands of guests and the Tauck team.

Our commitment to sharing American Indian tribal cultures and voices with our guests is part and parcel of that long-standing commitment to the national parks.

“We love the way these award-winning and engaging artists carry on our tradition of providing 'insider' access to authentic stories and moments in the national parks,” says tour architect Roger Saterstrom.
“Art can be as moving as the most spectacular landscape and, in turn, getting to know the talented artists-in-residence immeasurably deepens our understanding of this spectacular part of the world.”

snakeriverAll three of these Tauck Western trips also feature Stories by Ken Burns – original film vignettes by filmmakers Ken Burns and Dayton Duncan filled with behind-the-scenes stories of the national parks… rafting on the Snake River as the Tetons rise dramatically by your side… a firsthand look at life as a cowboy on a working cattle ranch steeped in history… western entertainment in Cody, Wyoming… and the amazing Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse Memorial. Our Tauck Bridges family adventure Cowboy Country adds to the fun with horseback riding, a horse whisperer, and a thrilling stunt show at the Cody Nite Rodeo.

To top it all off, on all of these Tauck travel tours –Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks, Legends of the American West, and Cowboy Country – guests stay in accommodations in the heart of the national parks, in sought-after lodges and hotels with years-long waiting lists. And because we’ve secured these rooms, our guests experience the parks at some of the most magical times. You never forget your first sunrise in a national park.
